Q0023 – Upgrading SAP to S4HANA ComplianceNow add-on compatibility
Introduction
This document focuses on SAP systems with SAP_BASIS version 7.40 or higher with a current installation of the ComplianceNow add-on in SAP with the component name APPLIAPM and release version 520_740 (any SP-level)
When initiating the process of upgrading the SAP system it is important to consider the compatibility of all installed add-ons.
When we are discussing the ComplianceNow add-on, the original premise of the add-on APPLIAPM 520_740 is to ensure that it is compatible with all SAP systems from SAP_BASIS 7.40 and onwards to the newest SAP systems with SAP_BASIS 7.5x.
Do you need an Attribute Change Package (ACP)
Attribute change Package usually known or written as abbreviation; ACP, is a technical OCS package type. It is only the size of few kilobytes, as it contains only the important attributes for the other ABAP OCS package (Support Package, add-on installation & upgrade packages).
The add-on attributes and import conditions are all defined in the add-on package that is delivered from ComplianceNow. The attributes and import conditions delivered with the add-on are all compatible with the newest SAP S4HANA release 2023 FPS3 and below.
The add-on attributes
The ComplianceNow add-on, component named APPLIAPM contains the following attributes. The most important attribute for installation and upgrades is that the add-on requires the components SAP_ABA and SAP_BASIS to be a minimum of 740, which means that e.g. SAP_BASIS 7.58 is also covered by this import condition.

Consideration before the upgrade
Even though the ComplianceNow add-on is compatible with S4HANA for the lower SP-levels, it is recommended to upgrade the add-on the latest SP-level that is available before upgrading the SAP system.
The current latest add-on SP-level 12 comes with a fix for a minor warning during the SUM and maintenance planner.

Whether or not to upgrade the add-on should also take into account how the applications will be used during and immediately after the upgrade process. An upgrade of the add-on will require an upgrade of the corresponding ComplianceNow application server and the ComplianceNow applications.
Do you need to upgrade the add-on
You do not need to upgrade the ComplianceNow add-on before upgrading your SAP systems to S4HANA.
Due to various implemented checks in the SAP upgrade process, various issues can arise depending on the version of the source system, the version of the target system, and the implemented check in the SUM tool.

After the upgrade
Even though you might not have upgraded the APPLIAPM component before the S4HANA upgrade, there might be application issues arising from functionality requiring changes in the applications.
Consider upgrading the add-on and corresponding ComplianceNow application server to ensure application support of your new SAP system as well as benefit from the new functions delivered with the latest version of the ComplianceNow applications.
